A lovely summer’s afternoon and the golfers are out in full force at the Carswell Golf and Country club, as part of the annual Meningitis Research Foundation charity event organised by Mediafleet’s Production and Administrative Manager Carole Avenell. Carole organises the event every year in memory of her son Mark Hopgood, who at just six years old was tragically lost to Meningococcal Septicaemia.
“The sudden death of this mischievous little soul completely devastated our family and closest friends and sent waves of sadness through the local community. Everyone involved in this day and every kind donation made to the Meningitis Research Foundation will help to find a cure for the illness that took Markie from our lives.” Carole Avenell 7th sept 07.
Twenty eight golf teams tackled the eighteen sponsored holes on the course. Mediafleet not only sponsored the first hole at the event, but also had a team of their own. The team consisted of their finest and most charitable golfers; Lee Abrey, Barry John, James Hughes and Gary Thomas (aka Tiger Woods). After a tiring and thoroughly professional day of golfing the teams and the organisers made their way to the club house for a well earned Pimms or two. The evening brought more entertainment, from none other than Mediafleet’s Melanie Hinks who performed two of Mark’s favourite songs in the club house. Around 140 people filled the club house as the evening turned into a night of fantastic fun, a little silliness and plenty of dancing. A great day was had by all and over three thousand pounds was raised for The Meningitis Research Foundation.
